A Space by the Water - Vicky White Sept. 2009

DRAFT #1

Feng shui is the art of arranging your space to live harmoniously and successfully. Vicky White is an inner feng shui coach, who helps women in mid-life create (or remodel) their outer and inner spaces. Her company is Life Design Strategies.

"Women tend to run around and take care of everyone, and they may need support to create their own space. And without making inner changes, the changes they make in their outer environment may not stick," Vicky observed.

How important is a creative or work space? Vicky believes it's crucial; for example a cluttered space may hinder many people, and a clear space may help inspire people to go where they want to go. Vicky recalled hearing that a person's environment may account for up to 50 percent of their success, their skills only 10 percent, and mind set accounting for the remainder of someone's success.

Many people find inspiration and ideas outside of their work space. Others combine the two, but still need a change of scenery and they take breaks to stay fresh. Vicky knew water inspired her. After seeing a place that fit the bill, she sold her condominium and moved onto a houseboat in Vancouver, Canada. She finds inspiration in her houseboat office, sitting 4-5 feet above the water, but also finds it helpful to get away from her computer, and spends some time at a cottage by the sea once a month. Wireless networking also allows her to move out to a deck or other rooms in the houseboat.

Vicky urges her clients to be flexible and to consider changes to their work spaces that best suit their needs. When Vicky moved into her houseboat, she switched master bedroom and office spaces, so that her office space looked out over the water.

Creating Studio Spaces

Welcome.

It's July 31, 2009, and Studio Spaces, the blog, has been launched.

I have always been fascinated by work spaces that people create for themselves, and how creative types (all of us really) set up their work space to best work for them. I hope you'll consider sharing ideas on your space, including the top three things that you like and the top three challenges you have with your space.
Best to you all.
